Privacy Policy

Local file handling

UnzipIt is designed so that the archive files you select are processed locally in your browser. Your archives, their contents, extracted files, file names, and passwords are not uploaded to our servers for extraction.

The server only hosts the website assets — the HTML, JavaScript, Web Worker, and WebAssembly files required for the tool to run in your browser.

File contents

We do not collect archive contents, extracted files, file names, passwords, or the output folder you choose in your browser.

Do not send private file contents to analytics, bug reports, or support messages unless you intentionally choose to share that information.

Browser permissions

When supported, the Save to folder feature uses your browser's File System Access API. The browser asks you to choose a folder before the site can write files there.

Some browsers block system folders or sensitive locations. This restriction is controlled by the browser for user safety.

Analytics

We use privacy-conscious analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and which features are used. This helps us improve UnzipIt.

We use PostHog as our analytics provider. Analytics runs in production and is disabled during local development. We do not send your file names, file contents, archive contents, or passwords to analytics.

Cookies and local storage

UnzipIt may use cookies or browser local storage for basic site functionality, analytics, and — if applicable in the future — to remember your consent choices.

Analytics tools such as PostHog may set cookies to distinguish visitors and measure sessions. These identifiers are not linked to your archive contents.

Advertising

If we display advertising in the future, such as through Google AdSense, third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

In that case, Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings page.

Third-party services

UnzipIt relies on third-party services for analytics (PostHog) and, potentially, advertising. These providers may collect information governed by their own privacy policies, such as anonymized usage data.

We do not share your archive contents or extracted files with any third party.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. The updated date above indicates the latest version of this page.
